Dara Richter

E-RYT 200, RYT 500, YACEP. Originally from New York, Dara first experienced yoga while rehearsing for a musical in Berkeley, CA. Amazed by the immediate effects of linking breath to simple movement, she began practicing at an Ashtanga Vinyasa studio near her home in San Francisco, CA. That studio was called It’s Yoga (named for the answer to the question, “What are you doing differently? You look so healthy and happy.”)

Dara dove into their basic teacher training program, graduating with her first certificate in 1999. In 2002, she completed a second basic program with Clayton Horton of Greenpath Yoga.

For the next 14 years, Dara studied and taught yoga in the San Francisco Bay Area, to all ages and levels, and in many different environments including studios, gyms, classrooms, parks, beaches, corporate offices, and private homes. Meanwhile she finished a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts from Sonoma State University, and earned a California State K-12 Teaching Credential from Dominican University of California.

In 2014, Dara returned to her roots in the Hudson Valley. She currently teaches yoga at various locations throughout Rockland, Westchester, and Bergen Counties. In 2016 she completed the 300-Hour Advanced Teacher Training Program at Yoga Synthesis in Ramsey, NJ, with Raji Thron.

In her own yoga practice, the most profound benefit is a deeper sense of connection, both internal and external. She enjoys sharing her passion for natural and holistic wellness, and her appreciation for the guiding spiritual principles of yoga, such as non-violence, truthfulness, and contentment. She sprinkles humor (or attempts at humor?) throughout her classes. And she always encourages students to listen to their inner teacher, moving within the balance of curiosity tempered by wisdom.
