Information for New Students of Yoga Synthesis

Whether you are new to yoga or new to our Studio, we want to make sure that your first experiences at Yoga Synthesis are comfortable and rewarding.  Yoga should reduce stress and create a peaceful state of mind.  Our intention is for you to experience these benefits from the start.  Therefore, we hope that the following information will ease the transition as you begin your practice with us.

We offer an Intro to Yoga package for first-time students.  The package is $36 for 3 classes.

We encourage first-time students to begin their practice of yoga with a Level 1 class.  It’s best to begin with this level, regardless of your fitness level.  These classes will provide instruction and application of the fundamental principles of yoga postures and breathing technique, progressing towards basic Vinyasa Yoga, emphasizing Ujjayi breathing, Sun Salutations, standing poses, sitting poses and Shoulder Stand.

We recommend trying different teachers and class styles to find what best suits you.  We provide beginner to advanced level Hatha-based yoga classes, as well as specialty classes.  We invite any questions, concerns or suggestions you may have.  Please always feel welcome to speak with your teacher, call us at the studio or email us.

What to Know as You Get Started

New Students – please arrive 10-15 minutes early to fill out a New Student Form and purchase your introductory package.  This will also allow us to answer any questions you may have, and for your instructor to meet you.

We ask that you arrive a few minutes prior to your class start time, to sign in and have your class card updated.

We provide most of the props you may need during your practice (mats, bolsters, blocks, straps, balls, etc.), but you are welcome to bring your own.

We encourage you to buy your own mat.  When using one of ours, please wipe down after use.

Wear comfortable clothing.  Shoes should be left in the cubbies in our reception area.

Please be sure that cell phones and pagers are turned off while you are in the studio.

We offer convenient on-site parking in our lot.  If the lot is completely full, you may park in the Interstate Shopping Center next to the Studio.

Descriptions of our various classes (and a full schedule) may be found at our Studio. Feel free to inquire if you’re not sure which level class is appropriate for you, or if you have questions about any of our classes or instructors.

We offer several Class Packages.  Information and pricing may be found on our website, or by calling or visiting the Studio.  The Studio will provide you with a “Class Card” for the package you have purchased.  Please bring this each time you take a class.

Please let us know if you have any injuries or conditions which might affect your practice.

We ask that each new student please review the following Yoga Class Etiquette Guidelines:

A yoga space and yoga classes are opportunities for all present to delve into their own yoga practice (Sadhana) and enjoy the gathering of fellow yoga practitioners (Satsang).  To maintain the sanctity of the space and respect for others in it, we ask that all participants attempt to follow certain basic yogic precepts to the best of their ability. Of these precepts, observing nonviolence (Ahimsa) and purity or cleanliness (Shaucha) are perhaps the most important to remember.  Therefore, we request you follow these guidelines:

  • If you happen to arrive late, please enter the yoga room respectfully and quietly, perhaps waiting until after the opening meditation.
  • Before class begins, inform your teacher if you must leave early, please leave at an appropriate moment, giving yourself enough time to relax and depart quietly.
  • Before class begins, inform your teacher of injuries or conditions which might affect your practice, so they can help guide you towards appropriate variations or modifications.
  • During class, please respect the quietude by turning off cell phones and refraining from socializing during class.
  • Bring your own mat and towel if you sweat.  After using a studio mat, please clean it with a disinfectant wipe, and leave it on the floor to dry.
  • Arrive clean and free of scents.
  • We recommend not eating or drinking before class (ideally no food for two hours prior to class).

Namaste. We humbly bow to honor the spirit that abides in you, which abides in us all.
